Apple may have just spoiled Nikon’s next body. On the official Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW Authorized Products page (updated July 10, 2026), an unannounced camera labeled Nikon Z70 is listed next to the Z6III, Z8, Z9, and ZR.
That is not a casual mention — the Z70 shows up in both the ProRes and ProRes RAW product sections.
For context, older models like the Z7 II only gained ProRes RAW through external recorders. Seeing a brand-new model name drop onto Apple’s certification list alongside Nikon’s current hybrid / cinema cameras is a much stronger tell than a typo would usually be.
How this lines up with July DX rumors
In July, Nikon Rumors reported an upcoming APS-C (DX) Nikon body that sounded a lot like a high-speed “mini Z9 / mini ZR,” with D500-style ambitions for action shooters. The talking points at the time:
- Around a 45MP stacked DX sensor
- Very fast readout aimed at stills + video
- Possible RED technology influence in a smaller chassis than the full-frame ZR
- Launch window: within the next few months
- No confirmed model name yet
Apple’s “Z70” label is the first major third-party name that fits that rumor stream. If the connection holds, Nikon could be preparing a serious DX hybrid rather than another mild Z50-class refresh.
What the listing does — and doesn’t — prove
ProRes / ProRes RAW authorization usually means Final Cut Pro workflows are already in the pipeline. It does not automatically confirm every rumor detail.
Still unknown:
- Internal vs external ProRes RAW recording
- Confirmed DX vs FX body
- Price, availability, and exact video frame-rate limits
Even so, for a camera Nikon has never teased publicly, appearing on Apple’s authorized-products list is one of the cleaner pre-announcement leaks we have seen this year.
We will keep watching retailer listings, certification databases, and Nikon’s own channels for the first hard confirmation.
