Nikon is developing firmware 2.00 for the Nikon ZR — not posting a file you can flash today. The Z CINEMA full-frame body shipped in October 2025. Version 2.00 is slated for sometime in 2026. No month.

Planned for 2.00:

  • Log3G10 + REDWideGamutRGB when recording H.265 — smaller files, RED’s log/gamut for grading
  • A new [High ISO NR] level option during H.265 Log recording
  • Focus peaking while recording R3D NE (Nikon’s RED-color RAW codec)

Not in 2.00 — aimed at 2027:

  • Open-gate recording
  • Anamorphic desqueeze display

Nikon is developing those two as separate firmware, “with the goal of incorporating them in ZR firmware in 2027.” Specs and dates can still change. Current public firmware is still 1.11 (March 17, 2026).

RED is also updating RED CONTROL and RED CONTROL PRO so the apps can remote a ZR. No app version, no date.

Same-day Nikon paper, different product: cinema primes in development. The delay rumor we ran in August already had firmware sliding into 2027 — open gate matches that timeline; 2.00 is the 2026 slice.

Via Nikon USA. Launch story: ZR at $2,199. Delay context: 2026 pipeline slipping.
