Honestly, I am super frustrated with the footage coming out of my Pocket 3 right now. I’ve been trying to film some POV clips from inside my 2022 Toyota 4Runner (45k miles on the clock, mostly highway commuting in this brutal Arizona heat) and the highlights are just totally blown out. It’s barely watchable.

I’ve been scouring forums and Reddit threads—I saw a lot of people suggesting Freewell’s magnetic set, but then some users complained about the gimbal motor being sluggish with the extra weight. I also looked into the K&F Concept filters, but the reviews are all over the place regarding color shifting. I need something that won't make my footage look like a greenish mess.

I’m trying to avoid a total disaster for my next road trip next weekend, so I need a set that is reliable.

  • Needs to be magnetic (obviously).
  • Good build quality so it doesn't fall off on bumpy roads.
  • Affordable but not 'cheap' plastic junk.

Oh, and I guess it needs to be easy to swap out since I’m usually doing this solo while parked on the shoulder. Am I stuck with the official DJI ones, or is there actually a third-party set that doesn't mess with the gimbal calibration? My patience is wearing thin here.

> I've been through three of these gimbals across different versions, and those motors are way more sensitive than people admit. ^ This. Also, honestly, I gotta disagree that you need to spend a fortune on official gear to keep the gimbal happy. I've been running the K&F Concept ND Filter Set for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for months without a single motor error or weird tint. Theyre super light and way easier on the wallet than the DJI stuff. If you're worried about the weight, just dont stack them with a wide-angle lens. You can find them on sale all the time if you look around, and they save you enough cash to grab a decent case or extra storage. No point in overpaying when the magnets are this strong...

To add to the point above: honestly, if you want peace of mind, the Freewell Magnetic ND Filter Set for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the gold standard for a reason.

  • The magnets are STURDY, so they wont fall off on your road trip.
  • Theyre incredibly light, which keeps the gimbal motors happy.
  • No nasty color shifts compared to the cheaper stuff. Just stick to these and stop overthinking it. It works.

TL;DR: Stick with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Black Mist Filter Set or their standard NDs because the weight is calibrated perfectly for those motors. Just make sure you double-check the seal every time you mount them. I saw your post earlier but wanted to wait until I had a second to really think about it. Driving in Arizona heat is no joke, and that windshield glare is brutal on small sensors. Tbh, I always recommend sticking to the official glass for the Pocket 3. Those third-party magnets can be hit or miss, and if the weight is even a fraction of a gram off, you risk putting unnecessary strain on the gimbal motors over time. I’ve seen people fry their motors just by being lazy with mounting, so just make sure the magnets click in completely before you start moving. If you really wanna avoid that greenish color shift, don't cheap out. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 ND Filter Set is designed to keep the color science consistent with what the sensor expects. Third-party coatings can be a total gamble, and I’d recommend getting it professionally done if you aren't sure how to color grade that out later. It’s just safer to spend a bit more upfront than to deal with ruined footage on your road trip. Just be careful when swapping them on the shoulder, those little glass pieces are easy to drop in the dirt...

^ This. Also, honestly, I've been through three of these gimbals across different versions, and those motors are way more sensitive than people admit. Before I tell you what I use to avoid the color shifts, are you locking your shutter speed to double your frame rate? It sounds like you're fighting the exposure, but if you aren't dialed in on the settings, a filter might just frustrate you more.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've had zero issues with the Freewell Magnetic ND Filters for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 compared to the K&F Concept Magnetic ND Filter Kit for DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

  • Freewell: Perfect color neutrality, zero gimbal errors.
  • K&F Concept: Slightly cheaper, but definitely prone to that greenish tint you're worried about. Just grab the Freewell set and save yourself the headache before your trip.

This comes up a lot, but honestly, the gimbal motor strain is usually overblown unless you are stacking filters. Before I suggest anything, are you shooting in manual mode or just letting the camera handle the exposure? Also, what kind of light are you typically dealing with—are you mostly shooting during high noon or golden hour?
