Struggling to find a decent strap for my Q2 before a trip to Scotland next month. I've been reading through old threads here and on some blogs—people seem to love the Artisan & Artist silk straps, but I'm worried they'll slip off my coat when walking in the rain. Also looked at the classic Leica leather ones, though they look kinda stiff out of the box.
Here is what I actually need:
- Budget: around $100 max
- Comfort for all-day carrying (hiking around Edinburgh)
- Needs to protect the camera body from scratchy metal rings
Am I overthinking the silk vs leather thing? What are you guys actually using on yours?
I've been through three of these strap cycles and most options are overpriced hype. Get the Peak Design Leash V3 for around $50. It adjusts fast for hiking, doesn't slip on wet coats, and uses anchor links with protective plastic housings so the metal loops won't scratch your Q2 body. Leather stiffens up in Scottish rain and silk absorbs water.
I agree with the previous advice regarding the Peak Design Leash V3. Just make sure the anchor links are fully seated. I'd recommend double-checking the locks before every hike.
tbh you arent overthinking it, id grab a Corter Leather Standard Utility Strap bc it wont slip in the rain like silk and has built in leather flaps to protect the body.
Helpful thread 👍
Exactly what I was thinking
@Reply #4 - good point! Oh man, strap rabbit holes are my specialty — I've literally bought and sold like twelve different ones for my Q2 before finally landing on the Hardgraft Slide Camera Strap Dark Grey. Wait, no — I mean their Classic version. Anyway, bottom line is just watch out for the lug protectors scratching the top plate if you go with third-party leather (learned that the hard way in Skye).

Big if true
