What is actually the best strap for Leica Q2 right now cause Im kinda freaking out about dropping mine? Ive been looking at the Artisan & Artist silk straps online and everyone on reddit says they are super comfy, but then I read somewhere they fray pretty easily if you rub against rough jackets which makes me nervous tbh since I live in Seattle and wear heavy wool coats all the time plus my trip to Japan is literally in two weeks and my budget is around $100 max... Should I just get a standard leather one instead or is there something else Im missing here?

Saw this and had to chime in because the exact same thing happened to me last year. Re: "This question comes up a lot. The short..." — seriously, skip the silk if you're wearing wool coats in Seattle. You want something rugged and smooth for travel. Check out the Peak Design Leash instead. It solves every single worry you have:

  • Super secure anchor links (rated for way more than a Q2)
  • Smooth nylon webbing that won't snag on heavy jackets
  • Way under your $100 budget Grab one before your flight and enjoy Japan stress-free.

This question comes up a lot. The short answer is skip the silk if you live in Seattle wool and are heading to Japan where you will be moving constantly. Silk frays against rough fabric. Here are three durable options under $100 that will secure your Q2:

  • Peak Design Leash V3
  • Costs around $50. Quick adjusters are great for travel, and the anchor system holds up to 200 pounds.
  • Cooph Classic Leather Strap
  • Retails right around $90. Pure leather, robust, and handles friction from winter coats much better than woven silk.
  • Hardgraft Slide Camera Strap
  • Usually priced near $95. Combines wool felt and leather, very durable, and doesn't catch on rough jacket textures. Get something with quick disconnects so you can pack the camera flat in your bag when needed. Wool coats destroy delicate weaves fast.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

Drop anxiety with a heavy camera like the Q2 is completely valid, especially when traveling. Before looking at specific replacements, what exact lug connection style do you prefer, and do you typically wear the camera cross-body or just around your neck? Those two factors change how much stress the strap takes and what material holds up best against heavy wool friction.

Rarely post but saw this and had to chime in because the exact same thing happened to me last year when I took my setup to Tokyo. > Silk frays against rough fabric. Like someone mentioned, that silk weave is a total disaster waiting to happen if you wear heavy textures. I made the mistake of wearing a rough winter coat with a delicate woven strap during my trip, and by day three, the friction had literally started fuzzing the fibers right where it rubbed against my jacket zipper (was terrified it was going to snap completely while crossing Shibuya). Seriously, do not risk a nice camera body on a delicate strap when you're traveling and constantly moving. Save yourself the panic attack and just grab something sturdy and smooth that won't catch on your wool layers.

Exactly what I was thinking
