It’s official. Ricoh has confirmed it is developing the GR IVx — the 40mm-equivalent sibling everyone expected after the GR IV.
This is not a GR IIIx with a new badge. The camera uses a newly designed 26.1mm f/2.8 lens (about 40mm full-frame equivalent) with 8 elements in 6 groups, including three asphericals. Inside, it gets the GR IV’s ~26MP APS-C BSI sensor, 5-axis IBIS, the larger DB-120 battery, and about 53GB of internal storage.
Development specs so far (subject to change):
- 26.1mm f/2.8 (40mm equiv.), f/2.8–f/16
- ~25.74MP APS-C BSI CMOS — same generation as the GR IV, not the 24MP FSI chip in the GR IIIx
- 5-axis sensor-shift SR, AA-filter simulator, DR II dust removal
- ISO 100–204800, hybrid AF, Snap / Full Press Snap
- Crops: 50mm and 71mm
- 4K 30p/24p; Full HD up to 60p
- ~109.4 × 61.1 × 33.4mm, ~265g with battery
- ~250 shots CIPA on the DB-120
Launch: winter 2026 or later. Price: not announced.
The current GR IIIx / IIIx HDF / IIIx Urban Edition will stop production with October 2026 shipments in Japan (other regions may differ). If the GR IV is any guide, Ricoh can go from a development announcement to store shelves in about three months — but the official IVx wording still leaves room for a later date.
