So I finally caved and bought the Osmo Pocket 4 for my upcoming trips and general everyday vlogging, but turns out my old random micro SD cards from my drone wont cut it for the new 4K specs. Im so annoyed cause I thought any fast card would work tbh. Ive been reading forums and watching YouTube reviews for like three hours now and Im honestly more confused than when I started. People keep saying you need V30 or V90 cards, but then others mention overheating issues with certain SanDisk models, and half the Amazon reviews look fake af. I just need something reliable in a 256GB or 512GB size that can actually handle high bitrate 4K video without dropping frames or corrupting files, and ideally I dont wanna spend an absolute fortune like $150 on a single card if I dont have to.
So what exact SD card are you guys actually using in your Pocket 4 that doesnt stutter when shooting 4K?
> half the Amazon reviews look fake af Spot on. Before spending cash, what exact frame rates and bitrates are you planning to shoot at mostly?
TL;DR: Stick to name brands from authorized dealers to avoid fakes. Here is a quick comparison:
- Lexar Professional Silver 256GB V30: Affordable, stable for 4K, but slower write speeds during heavy buffer loads.
- Kingston Canvas Go Plus 512GB: Excellent sustained write speeds, runs slightly warm. Just make sure to buy directly from major retailers rather than third-party marketplace sellers. Double-check your card speed ratings before formatting in-camera.
Rarely post but saw this earlier and literally had to chime in because finding the right card without getting ripped off is such a pain. I totally agree with everyone warning about all the fake listings out there (seriously, never buy these on Amazon unless it's shipped and sold directly by them), but you don't need to drop crazy money on a V90 either. Here is what you actually want to grab:
- SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC 256GB V30 — Usually sits around $35 to $40. Just make sure it's the V30 A2 version (avoid the Ultra series entirely for 4K bitrates, trust me).
- Kioxia Exceria Plus microSDXC 256GB — If you can find it, it's super reliable and way less faked than SanDisk. Just stick to V30 speeds because anything higher is literally overkill for the Pocket 4 codec anyway.
Did this last week, worked perfectly
man I totally feel your pain, I went through this exact same rabbit hole last week lol. im no expert by any means, but after hours of staring at spec sheets, heres what I actually learned and ended up buying:
- skip the crazy expensive v90 cards, your camera doesnt even need that kind of speed and youll just waste money
- look for a reliable V30 card with good write speeds, specifically the Samsung Pro Plus MicroSD 256GB which runs around thirty or forty bucks depending on sales
- make sure you buy from a trusted store like Best Buy or direct from Amazon, way too many fakes floating around out there tbh idk, mine has been handling high bitrate 4k totally fine without dropping frames so far...
