Best SD card for DJI Mavic 3?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I have no idea where to start. I just got a DJI Mavic 3 and my current card keeps lagging when I try to shoot 4K video. It's super annoying. What specific SD card capacity and speed do I actually need to buy for this drone?

So funny you ask this — last summer I was out filming a local bridge project and my footage just completely froze up right in the middle of a golden hour shot (total panic moment, let me tell you). I was using some random cheap card I found in a drawer. Anyway, you definitely need something with a V30 rating at the very least for those high bitrates, but what really saved me was switching over to the Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 128GB microSDXC UHS-I V30 because it handles the write speeds without breaking a bank (usually runs around twenty bucks or so). Just grab a 128GB or 256GB V30 card from a reputable brand and you won't have to deal with that lag ever again.

Saw this earlier and this comes up a lot — wait, no, I mean the same card recommendations keep getting recycled. You really don't need to spend a fortune on boutique drone cards.

Same here!

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Building on the earlier suggestion, this comes up a lot. Search the forum, there's a thread about this, but the short answer is you just need a reputable V30 or V90 card from a major brand.

  • Stick to established brands like SanDisk or Lexar
  • Ensure the card is rated V30 minimum for 4K
  • Buy from authorized retailers to avoid counterfeits Just get any high-capacity card from those makers and it will handle the write speeds fine.

Rarely post but saw this and had to chime in — before everyone recommends more cards, what resolution and codec are you actually recording in?

Oh man, I totally feel your pain on this — I went through the exact same headache last week when my old card kept choking on 4K footage. I'm no expert by any means, but after digging through a bunch of forums, I grabbed the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB microSDXC and it fixed everything instantly. Make sure you get a V30 or V90 rating so it writes fast enough! Plus, keep an eye out for sales on Amazon since prices drop all the time.

I'm no expert by any means, but I just went through this exact research process yesterday for my own drone. The Mavic 3 records demanding bitrates, especially in 4K and Apple ProRes, which is why slow cards lag and drop frames. You need to look for cards with a V30 rating minimum, though V90 is required if you are shooting in maximum ProRes settings. Look for a capacity of at least 128GB or 256GB since 4K files fill up small cards extremely fast. After checking specs and compatibility lists, I ordered the Lexar Professional 1066x 256GB microSDXC UHS-I V30. Another reliable option is the Samsung PRO Plus 256GB microSDXC V30. Both meet DJI's write speed requirements and prevent the buffer from overloading during extended 4K recording sessions. Make sure you buy from an authorized retailer to avoid counterfeits that ruin footage.

Exactly what I was thinking
