The current Canon EOS R7
Canon R7 Mark II is coming next year! According to CR, this new camera will be officially announced in Q3 2025 along with two “higher-end” RF-S zoom lenses.
2024 announcement cycle has wrapped up, with Canon introducing several professional full-frame cameras and seven new lenses, including two VR models. Notably, four new L series lenses were launched, featuring the highly anticipated internal zoom 70-200mm and a set of L prime lenses dubbed the Hybrid Trinity.
Looking ahead to 2025, Canon is expected to focus on both full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras. Canon EOS R6 Mark III is anticipated in the first quarter, possibly before CP+ in February. Canon is reportedly planning a significant overhaul of its APS-C lineup later that year, suggesting more than just Mark II updates.
The upcoming Canon EOS R7 Mark II will be Canon’s first APS-C camera with a stacked sensor, potentially exceeding 32.5MP for 8K video capabilities and positioning it as a successor to the EOS 7D Mark II.
Additionally, two non-L “pro” RF-S lenses are set to be launched in 2025, covering a 24mm to 200mm equivalent range. Canon is also developing a new RF-S prime lens, with hopes for a focal length reminiscent of the beloved EF-M 32mm f/1.4. Supply chain challenges may affect release timelines.
