Nikon Z6 III to be Announced in 2023

According to DCW, Nikon Z6 III will be officially announced in 2023.

The arrival of the Nikon Z6 III is inevitable, and it may be sooner than you think. Around the middle of this year, rumors began to circulate that either the Z6III or the Z8 would be announced in August, and later rumors suggested that the announcement would move from August to October, with only the Z8 being announced.

However, the mere fact that Nikon Z6 III rumors are circulating suggests that development is well advanced. In fact,  Nikon will announce three models in 2023.

Regarding the Z6 III specs: Z6III upgrades may be incremental. For example, replace the Z6II’s two Expeed6 processors with a single Expeed7. I think this makes sense, but it probably won’t motivate consumers to buy newer planes.

The Z6 III may get some sensor improvements to differentiate it from the Z6II and the Z5, which is dangerously close in specs. The Z6III may have a slightly higher pixel sensor or a stacked sensor, offering either higher resolution or faster continuous shooting.

The most obvious and mandatory upgrade we anticipate is the addition of a Bali Hangul monitor. Considering that Nikon won’t move away from tilt with Nikon Z9, the Z6III should be a selling point, especially for videographers, if it’s the only full-frame mirrorless with a vari-angle.

Video is another area where Nikon can make serious inroads, and by adopting 4K60p, the Z6III will be able to position itself as a video-specific model in the full-frame Z system. The addition of 4K60p is a no-brainer, and if it can at least match the performance of the EOS R6, the Z6III would be an attractive option.

The Z6III is expected to be a gradual evolution (normal evolution model) from the Z6II, but if a stacked sensor is installed, it will not be a normal evolution but a big leap. However, using a stacked sensor would make it quite expensive, and I feel like it would be a product in a different class from the current Z6 series.

As for the vari-angle monitor, Nikon has already adopted it in the Zfc and Z30, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if future full-frame models would use it. Also, 4K60p is already supported with the Z6II firmware update.
